We have had several calls today about making reservations for cabins or lodge homes, so don't delay and miss out! There will be sledding, ice skating and snow shoeing right here at Black Bear Lodge. Plus you could even enjoy an old fashion horse drawn sleigh ride! Did you know the Bear's Den Bar & Grill is again bringing in the New Year with a free party and entertainment. Is Spring Here?

Greetings! The last few days we have been enjoying blue skies, warm temperatures in the 40's, and sun-filled hours. As I was out running yesterday and the day before, I crossed paths with other runners, people on bikes, and even motorcyclists! However, as we have been enthusiastically greeting this weather, it is bittersweet as we see the snowmobile trails deteriorate right under us. They are in poor condition, and most markings have been taken off of the lakes.

Cross country skiing conditions are not horrible as the trails are a bit patchy, and are bare, thin, and icy in a few spots. They are ski-able, and skiers are still out there. The best skiing is on the spring crust...the hard layer of snow/ice all over. The next warm day, go out in shorts and a t-shirt and take advantage of a fast ski!

Snowshoeing conditions are all right, but you will find the best snow in the woods where sun has not hit it as much. Snowshoeing is still going, so get out there!

Geocaching has swept the Northwoods, and The Great Northwoods Treasure Hunt is well underway! There has been six caches placed for this hunt in St. Germain, and twelve more in Boulder Junction and Rhinelander. Check out the cool prizes and contests going on at the website above!

Weather Update

Well, we still have not received any recent accumulation of snow, but we are not giving up hope! We are supposed to receive flurries and some snow showers throughout the weekend, but accumulation, if any, will be very little.

Snowmobile trails are fair to good condition. We do have little snow on the trails, and some of the corners are icy. However, the Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club continues to groom the trails every night, and they do a great job! Snowmobilers are taking advantage of the snow, and still going out, especially onto the lakes.

Cross country skiing conditions are in good to excellent condition, and with the temperatures rising above 0 degrees, more enthusiasts are getting out there! The wind is a bit cold, so dress appropriately. For your feet while cross country skiing, invest in some SmartWool socks. These socks are excellent for any temperature, have good wicking ability, and are incredibly soft and comfortable!

Snowshoeing conditions are fair to poor in the woods. They are not bad in open fields or spaces. We simply need a big snowstorm! If you are an avid snowshoer, take a look into the Snowshoe Blaze, coming up on March 3 here in St. Germain. It includes demonstrations, and a moonlight snowshoe trek to top it off!

Think snow!

Snow...or lack of...

Well, we have not received any recent snowfall, but the snowmobilers are still out there and taking advantage of what we do have! Trails are rideable and in good to fair condition. With the colder temperatures, the snow that we do have is sticking with us! Grooming of the trails continues every night.

Cross country ski trails are in good to excellent conditions. Once again, the colder temperatures did wonders for the trails, and it is prime conditions for skating and classic techniques!

Snowshoeing conditions are fair. There is not a lot of powder or fresh snow, so conditions are not so prime for a trek in the woods! We need more snow!

Ice skating conditions are great, all you have to do is dress warmly and have fun!
