Beautiful Sunny Day

The resort is really shaping up and was highlighted by the wonderful sunny conditions we had today at Black Bear. The piers and rafts are in.

I have continued to stalk the mallards who hang out in the ponds along Halberstadt Road between the resort and Highway 70. Lots of wildlife to capture lately!

Happy Mother's Day!

Hope you all have a wonderful Mother's Day. It is quiet here and windy. Yesterday we had better weather and I was able to photograph this loon right out in front of our house (next to the resort):
This mallard has been hanging around in the swamp that is about 1/2 way down Halberstadt Road (between the resort and Highway 70):

Enjoy the rest of Mother's Day! --Diane

Happy Mother's Day weekend!

It is a great day at Black Bear Lodge. The sun is shining bright, it is in the mid 50's.

Want to take your mom on an adventure this weekend come to Black Bear Lodge. Enjoy Journeys Marathon, a quiet afternoon on the lake or even a quiet evening by the camp fire!!

Fishing Opener Today

Today marks the opening of the 2008-09 Wisconsin Fishing Season! Ice thawed just in time for the opener -- but it's snowing this morning! Hopefully the snow won't last long. We'll keep you posted of any productive fishing action on Little Saint Germain Lake but certainly, this weather will keep some fair-weather anglers off the lake today.

Sayner Stampede Event Today in Sayner

The 11th Annual Sayner Stampede is being held today -- a huge gathering of craft and stamping enthusiasts from all over the midwest. Some participants even come from Canada for this weekend! Last night a class was held at the Rustic Manor Motor Lodge as a prelude to today's activities held in Sayner. Click here for more details on this exciting stamping event, which is a terrific complement to the fishing opener this weekend (fun for all!)

Mallards

The Mallards were spotted again down in the swamp pond across from our resort entrance. The drakes are in their prime color this time of year, for mating season.

Ice Almost Out - April 30

Just very thin ice sheets exist at this time on Little St. Germain Lake! The geese and ducks play together at the edge of the ice. Most of the lake is open and awaiting opening day of fishing this Saturday!

Spring Clean-up and Lake Thaw Almost Complete

While ice can still be found in certain areas on the lake, much of Little St. Germain Lake is open water and will be ready for Opening Day of Fishing this Saturday. Gosia is seen here blowing leaves near the Bear's Den Lounge at the resort.

Drake Takes Flight

I have driven and walked by this swamp right here on Halberstadt Road hundreds of times -- but today something was different. Today, I had my camera and there stood a mallard!
He was listening carefully and scoping out the surroundings...

Off to the next watering hole (there aren't many open yet in the area)...

More Spring Sightings

As the snow melts, we are spotting more wildlife each day. These were taken Thursday and Friday while I was out and about:

Here's one of our buddies who hang around the resort. The cottontails are awake and seeking food (budding plants preferred) where ever they can find it!

I was driving on a back road near Sugar Camp, WI and saw these geese at swimming in the open water near a bridge. (Little St. Germain Lake still has ice on it - FYI).
