Wildlife at Black Bear Lodge

Fritz the Fox is back! He took up residency last winter outside the main office; we tried all winter to photograph him as he would trot past our front door or walk through the resort. Our Manager even came face to face with him on the lake front one day but did not have camera in hand! We found his tracks in the snow by the Treehouse yesterday, a sure sign that we will see him soon. Hopefully we can get a photo of him to share this winter! We saw squirrels carrying whole hot dog buns down the driveway today, which was very funny, a guest must be feeding them. Our Snowshow Hares have turned completely white, as have the weasels. Did you know that when the short-haired weasel turns white it is called an ermine? We watched one run across the trailer parking lot a few days ago; first time we can recall seeing one on the resort. Snow is on its Way!

The weather forecast is for 3-6 inches of snow tonight and into Turkey Day! Yes, that is what we are hoping for, SNOW! It won't be long before you can bring the family and go snowmobiling, snowshoeing and sledding at the Black Bear Lodge, located on Little St. Germain Lake. Think Snow!

First Snow Fall

Our first snow fall of the season has arrived today! It is just beautiful, the huge evergreen trees are covered and bending with the heavy snow! It is truly a winter wonderland! The Count Down Continues to OktoBEARfest!

OktoBEARfest is just 4 days away and we are busy getting the Black Bear Lodge and Bear's Den Bar & Grill on Little St. Germain Lake ready for the 11th annual OktoBEARfest. Amy Linnett from WRJO radio will be broadcasting live from 9 am to 12 noon, come by and say Hi to Amy. There will be drawings for prizes every hour on the hour. Grand Prize is a 2 night stay at the Black Bear Lodge. We have some "New" vendors this year, to be sure to check out - Lisa Koening's one of a kind soft cloth doll witches, snowmen, and angels, and Penny Engel's hand painted ceramic's and glass, to name a few. OktoBEARfest is on Sat. 10/30, from 10 to 4 pm.

Biggest Oktobearfest ever!

Count down to OktoBEARfest, just 5 days away! This will be the biggest OktoBEARfest ever! Bring the entire family and enjoy a fun fall festival with German music, Brats, kraut fritters, German beer, hay rides, pumpkin painting and of course take care of your Christmas shopping from all the wonderful crafters who will be located in our cabins and lodge homes. Black Bear Lodge is located on Little St. Germain Lake in St. Germain. The Bear's Den will be jumping with the Jim Pekol Band, food and costume contest. A fun day will be had by all, come and join in!

Things to do in the Northwoods

We had a guest tell us today how beautiful it is in the Northwoods, even with the leaves gone! They are having a great time, going to the Casinos, fishing off the shore, walking in the woods, trying different restaurants, shopping and relaxing by the fireplace. This quiet time is a great time to come up, visit and enjoy the lowest rates of the year! The Black Bear Lodge is located on Little St. Germain Lake and lodging accommodations have a beautiful view of the lake.

It's not to soon to think Snow and reserve your favorite cabin or lodge home for a midweek or weekend Snowmobile outing! Black Bear Lodge is the #1 pit stop on the BoBoen snowmobile trail. You can travel by land or across Lt. St. Germain Lake to hundreds of groomed trails. If you don't have your own sleds, we can help you arrange to rent them close by. After a great day on the trails, snuggle up to a warm fire in one of our cabins or lodge homes. We are the birth place to the snowmobile, thanks to Great Uncle Carl, who invented it, right here in St. Germain!

Fish Fry Friday!

It is a tradition in the Northwoods to go out for fish on Friday! The Bear's Den features a great fish fry, which is located right here at the Black Bear Lodge. Many local restaurants also have Friday Fish Fry specials! Bring the family up and enjoy the last of the colors and experience a fantastic fish fry, or catch your own in Lt. St. Germain Lake!

Indian Summer is here!

Wow, what great weather we are having! It is Indian Summer, which is defined by having a hard frost, followed by the temperature being 10 degrees above normal. So if you're looking for a place to go this weekend, bring the family and drive up to the Black Bear Lodge, on Little St. Germain lake.

Enjoy biking, hiking, fishing, walking or driving down a rustic road and look at the fall colors and view our wildlife. One guest saw 3 bear cubs sitting in the road the other day, how great is that!
