From the Experts

Experts say that the trails will be good for early riders today. Areas around us did get up to nine inches of snow within the last few days. After the temperature dropped last night, the trails have become a little more stable than yesterday. It is absolutely beautiful out! However, most lakes are not considered totally safe. The trails are rideable, and will be worth giving a try! The forecast is predicting snow for Christmas Day, and later during the week.

Our cross country ski guru reports that the cross country ski trails are icy after a cold night, and will continue to be poor until we get more snow. As of right now, the snow is not deep enough for grooming tracks. For skating wax today, try a mix of ToKo red and yellow glide wax for this morning, and yellow for later this afternoon.

Be safe!

I'm thinking about staying at your resort this summer, but I'm concerned about the negative reviews on Trip Advisor: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g60253-d585514-Reviews-Black_Bear_Lodge-Saint_Germain_Wisconsin.html What's your response to these comments? And do you really make guests pay for towels and toilet paper? I hope you'll post a reply on your blog. Thank you!

  2. Trip Advisor is a great source for independent comments. In this case (and probably in many situations) Trip Advisor gets the negative comments but not the many wonderful comments that guests have about our resort! We have a very high return guest ratio and along with guest referrals, that totals about 75% of our business! Be assured that we are straight shooters; our on-line pictures and policies are sincere and accurate.

Regarding our accommodations: they all come with complete bedding (sheets, pillows, blankets, bedspreads) and the kitchens include modern appliances and are stocked with basic kitchenware like pots, pans, dishes, glassware, flatware, and utensils. We do not set up comsumable items such as salt and pepper, ketchup, paper towels, or toiletries like shampoo or bath bars. We do provide toilet paper! An ample supply is provided in the unit and additional may be requested free of charge at any time during your stay. Our rate for lodging does not include daily housekeeping or towel services, although a full range of housekeeping services are available for a fee upon request. Many families, during the summer especially, bring their own towels and save this expense, while others request initial or daily housekeeping services by our staff. We put the choice in our guest's hands.

During the summer, some other services that our guests appreciate include bailing boats, daily raking of the beaches, campfire wood provided at each campfire, and a free children's activity program with crafts, fishing contest, and scavenger hunt. We also host a professional fishing guide to provide our guests a lake preview and fishing tips for our specific lake and current weather conditions.

We hope that this has answered your questions!
