Windy Days

Greetings! Today was another spring day, but a little bit more chilly and windy! Here it rarely gets really, really windy, so this breeze was very refreshing. Here are a few facts on wind and wind energy....

*According to the European Wind Energy Association, the wind is capable of supplying 10% of the world's electricity within the next 20 years--even if electricity usage doubles during that time.

*Wind energy is growing fast. It has been the world’s fastest growing renewable energy source for more than a decade with an average annual growth rate of over 20%.

*Denmark now generates 20% of its electricity with the wind. By 2030, Denmark expects half of their country's energy needs will be met with renewable energy sources.

*Wind energy provides more jobs per unit of energy produced than any other form of energy. The number of people employed by the industry worldwide is estimated to be 100,000. Each megawatt of wind provides 2-1/2 to 3 job years of employment.

Wow, that's pretty cool. Go out and fly a kite!
