Fishing Update

Fishing season has been in full swing for about two weeks now. Here are some reports of fishing in the area...

*Catch-and-release bass fishing in the area is great. Both largemouth and smallmouth are in 4 to 6 feet of water, weed related around drowned wood. The average size of the bass thus far is going 19 to 20 inches. Use a small crankbait, or a little spinner or topwater.

*A strong walleye bite is going one, with smaller males providing the best action. Savvy anglers are either drifting or anchoring in 10 to 12 feet of water, using a slip bobber on the deeper side, and a jig on the shallower side. The walleye are scooting about right in and around weeds and are rock related. Best bait is a large or extra large fathead, with some anglers getting action on leeches.

*Northern are northern. Figuratively "throw an old sock" at them and you'll get action. Fish the weed edges or the tops of weeds in 4 to even 12 feet of watter. Best success coming on spinners or buzz baits.

*The crappie are in 5 feet of water or less and are providing a great bite. Use a small minnow, or a tube jig. Perch are being caught in the weeds in 6 to 8 feet of water, right off the bottom. Use a chunk of crawler or leaf worm.

The weather has been cooperating nicely, with rain here and there. Summer is coming up quickly!
